The Auckland YWCA has appointed Patricia Bell to the newly created position of marketing co-ordinator. Bell will be responsible for PR and communications, as well as fundraising for the YWCA's community programmes. She previously worked in fundraising and communications for the Auckland City Mission.
Mike Hogg has become a director of IT consulting company Thebics. Hogg has more than 35 years' experience in IT, holding senior management and project director roles in the corporate sector. He will be responsible for business development.
Hanover Securities has appointed Colin Saunders as general manager. Saunders most recently headed operations in New Zealand for Macquarie Property Investment Banking and was a director of Macquarie Bank.
The National Heart Foundation has appointed Professor Norman Sharpe as its new medical director. Professor Sharpe was previously professor of medicine at the University of Auckland and a cardiologist at Auckland Hospital. He was head of the department of medicine and remains Professor Emeritus at the university.
Pakuranga College has appointed Colleen Maguiness as deputy principal. Maguiness has been working at the Education Review Office for the past two years and was previously head of English at Western Springs College.
Peter Nicholson has been appointed fleet manager for Moyes Holden in Auckland. Nicholson has more than 30 years' experience in the retail motor industry, specialising in fleets. He is to focus on helping to establish a dedicated fleet department.
IT services company and Hitachi storage reseller Hosting & Datacentre Services (HdS) has appointed Gary Quigley business development manager. Quigley will manage key customer relationships and be responsible for product and channel development for the HdS Virtual Data Centre hosting and outsourcing platform and the company's Business Fabric hosted applications programme.
Auckland-based designer Cathy Veninga has been appointed president of the Designers Institute of New Zealand, the professional organisation representing interior, graphic, and product designers. Veninga is the first woman to hold the role since the institute's inception in 1991. Graphics designer Fraser Gardyne has been appointed vice-president.
