Move on RNZAF helicopter purchase

The Government has taken another step in its plan to spend $500 million on new Air Force helicopters.

The Cabinet yesterday authorised Ministry of Defence officials to negotiate the purchase of up to eight helicopters to replace 14 ageing Iroquois and smaller Sioux trainers.

In March last year it decided on European-designed NH90 helicopters.
