New Zealand police were not the only officers to be recognised on Friday.
Resplendent in a scarlet tunic and knee-high boots complete with spurs, retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Corporal Garry Bartlett received a Canadian long-service medal.
The medal was awarded by the Canadian police but presented in Masterton.
Mr Bartlett said he and his family relocated to Wairarapa in 2012, meaning he missed out on the award ceremony in Canada.
The medal recognised his 25 years of service in Ontario, where he primarily worked on international drug smuggling investigations.
