About 250 mourners farwelled mountain guide Gottlieb Braun-Elwert at Tekapo today.
The 59-year-old died of a suspected heart attack while on an alpine expedition with Prime Minister Helen Clark in the Southern Alps on August 14.
Helen Clark and her party tried in vain to resuscitate the father-of-two.
Helen Clark was unable to attend today's funeral service because she was attending the Pacific Islands Forum in Nuie but her husband Peter Davis delivered an eulogy written by her.
