Tauranga City Council has given the Mount's artificial surf reef project a $122,000 push for detailed design, tendering and further fundraising promotion.
The Mount Reef Trust now hopes construction of the 100m long, 50m wide sandbag reef, offshore from the beach at the intersection of Marine Parade and Tay St, will start in September.
