Motorist seriously injured after car and truck crash in Canterbury

A crane is being called in to clear wreckage after a serious truck crash near Ashburton this afternoon.

Police say one person is in a serious condition and another has moderate injuries after a car and truck collided on Cracroft Maronan Rd.

A power pole had also been hit when the vehicles crashed.

A police spokesperson said three people were in the two vehicles. One person walked away from the crash uninjured.

The accident happened around 1.45pm.

A crane was on the way to clear the scene and the road was likely to be blocked for several hours.

Diversions were in place at Arundel Rakaia Gorge Rd and at Trevors Rd.

The Police Serious Crash Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit have been notified.
