A motorcyclist has been flown to Wellington Hospital after being seriously injured this afternoon in a crash in Wairarapa.
The 53-year-old Upper Hutt man lost control on a bend near Greytown, then hit a barrier on the side of the road and came off his bike.
He suffered major leg injuries, and is believed to have broken both his femurs, which can cause major blood loss.
The man has been flown to Wellington Hospital's Emergency Department by the Life Flight Trust, and is to undergo surgery.
