Motorcyclist lay dead for hours after crash

A motorcyclist is dead after hitting a tree in the Bay of Plenty town of Kawerau overnight.

Police said the man may have lying dead on the street for several hours before he was found.

He was found shortly befoere daybreak and police said it was surprising no one heard anything because the accident happened in a residential street.

No other details were available.
