Motorcyclist killed in collision with coal truck

A male motorcyclist was killed in a head on collision with a coal truck 11km north of Greymouth this morning.

The accident happened at the intersection of the road to the Spring Creek coalmine at about 9.20am.

The impact crumbled the motorbike, which ended up on the grass beside the road. The rider was understood to have been killed instantly.

Police closed one lane of the road and a serious crash investigator was looking over the scene this morning.
