The family of a motorcyclist killed in the annual Cliffhanger Hillclimb event in Carterton has described him as an experienced rider who had taken part in the event many times.
Wellington man Kevin Waugh, 59, died when he came off his bike and hit a fence during the event yesterday morning.
The Newlands IT worker was described by his family as an experienced rider with a lot of racing experience and had done the cliffhanger climb many times.
"He was a good man, a man of principles, loving and caring, always there with a smile,'' his family said in a statement.
He was a strong supporter and ambassador of the White Ribbon anti-domestic violence campaign, they said.
