A motorcyclist died last night after skidding off a road and into a stream.
The crash happened on Wiremu Road, near Okato, 26km southwest of New Plymouth, just before midnight and it left a 28-year-old man dead.
Police said the victim was found shortly after the incident and ambulance staff tried to save his life, but to no avail.
A second motorcyclist, who was with the victim at the time of the accident, is believed to have left the scene shortly after the crash. Police want to speak to that person as soon as possible.
They also want to hear from anyone who may have been passed by one or more motorcyclists north bound on or near Wiremu Road before midnight.
The name of the dead man will not be released until next of kin have been told.
