A motorcyclist has been airlifted to Nelson Hospital with critical injuries after the motorbike he was driving and a car collided on the West Coast this afternoon.
Emergency Services were called to Upper Buller Gorge Road, near the Buller Gorge Swing about 12.20 pm after a motorbike and car crashed, an ambulance spokesman said.
The summit rescue helicopter was also sent to the scene and flew a man in his 40s to hospital.
He had very serious multiple injuries, including chest injuries, and was in a critical condition.
It was not yet known what caused the crash, a police spokeswoman said.
