A motorbike that failed to stop for police on the Southern Motorway was tracked by the police helicopter as it sped through suburbs for almost 20 minutes last night.
The motorbike reached speeds of 160km/h on the motorway and travelled in excess of 100km/h through suburban streets, running red lights and overtaking traffic through Greenlane, Ellerslie and Mt Wellington.
The rider was caught by a police dog handler in Manurewa at 7.22pm after he dumped the bike and tried to get into a taxi. He was arrested on driving and drugs charges.
