Lanes on a major Auckland road are blocked after a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist this morning, police say.
“Northbound lanes of Great South Rd at Manurewa are blocked following a serious crash involving a motorcycle,” they said.
Emergency services were called to the scene, near Mahia Rd, about 11.20am.
“The rider of the [motor]bike received critical injuries.”
The Serious Crash Unit would be carrying out a scene examination and traffic management was in place, police said.
The crash comes after two people were killed and four injured, two critically, on Auckland motorways early yesterday morning.
A man was killed after he walked on to the Southwestern Motorway and was struck by at least three vehicles – none of which stopped, police said.
The man died on a section of the State Highway 20 motorway near Mt Roskill, Detective Senior Sergeant Kathy Bostock said yesterday.
“The man entered the northbound on-ramp at Dominion Rd at around 1.30am ... none of the vehicles [which struck the man] stopped at the time.”
She urged the drivers to “do the right thing” and get in contact with police as an investigation is now under way.
“They are an important part of us establishing the circumstances of this tragic event.”
The victim’s identity was known but formal identification and next-of-kin processes would need to be completed before they released further details, police said.
They wanted to hear from people travelling on the Southwestern Motorway between 1.30am and 2am, said Bostock, of Auckland City CIB.
“We know there were a number of vehicles passing through, so we’d especially like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage.”

Meanwhile, one person was killed and four injured after a single-vehicle crash on the Southern Motorway at Ōtara at 2.20am yesterday.
The two critically injured people were taken to Auckland City Hospital and two others with serious injuries to Middlemore Hospital, police said.
The crash caused headaches for commuters returning to work after Waitangi Day, with a northbound section of the motorway closed for several hours.
Police said today they had no new information to share on either incident.
A pedestrian was also seriously injured yesterday after colliding with a cyclist in Auckland.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Wakefield and Rutland Sts at 9.45am, police said.
“The pedestrian was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.”
