The Wairarapa Motorcycle Club's open day at their Masterton venue last Sunday was a huge success, for sponsors, administrators, competitors and spectators.
A number of visitors from Wellington and Pahiatua watched some thrilling motocross action and there were many favourable comments on the condition of the track and the other facilities available there. It seems Wairarapa is so much better served than many other clubs in both respects.
Opportunity was taken to sign up new members and renew subscriptions and it is hoped many of those people will attend the Wairarapa club's annual meeting to be held at the Returned Services Clubs rooms in Essex Street, Masterton, next Thursday, starting at 7pm.
As to the racing last Sunday it provided any amount of entertainment with riders like Jay Langland, Bjarne Fredrikson, Scott Sowry, Travis Edwards and Scott Robinson all earning themselves a good spectator following through their spectacular jumps and the speeds they reached.
The celebrity race was a hoot with Brent Gear of More FM and Craig Thompson of the Masterton Licensing Trust taking on a couple of seven-year-olds in Adam Gordon and Hunter Jacobson. The two youngsters whipped some old butt and I must say it was a laugh when a snail went past Brent Gear on more than one occasion!
A number of photographs from the open day are available for viewing on the club's website, all in all it was roaring success and well worth repeating.
