Police are searching for motorcyclist who reached speeds of up to 180km/h in peak-hour traffic in Rotorua this morning.
A spokesman for the Rotorua Strategic Traffic Unit said that about 8am a police officer travelling on the main Fenton St noticed a motorbike travelling at high speed.
The officer clocked its speed at 117km/h.
The rider then sped off pursued by the police officer who was forced to withdraw for safety reasons as the bike's speed increased.
