Motivation won't be a problem
for Harcourts when they
complete their participation
in this year's regional superleague netball competition with a
match against Kapi Mana at Te Rauparaha Stadium, Porirua tomorrow.
Player-coach Kelly Sargent has already confirmed this will be her swansong at superleague level and there is a strong likelihood several others in the squad will call it a day as well.
That being the case the chances are that Harcourts will not enter the superleague under their own banner next season and that if Wairarapa are to be represented it will be through a team consisting of players from a combination of clubs.
Adding further to Harcourts's enthusiasm to finish the season on a high note will be the fact
that Kapi Mana are actually the top-ranked side in division two of the superleague, having been replaced by Harcourts in division one midway through the competition.
Beating them would therefore silence any claims that Harcourts were not deserving of their place in the premier grade.
Victory won't come easily though.
For starters the wins recorded by Kapi Mana against their division two competition were similar in size to those achieved against the same opposition by Harcourts earlier in the season.
Secondly Harcourts will be without the Phillips sisters, Te Ata and Waimarama, who are off to Gisborne where they will be part of the Kuranui College team contesting the lower North Island secondary schoolgirls championships next week.
St Matthew's Collegiate and Wairarapa College will be competing there as well.
To offset the loss of the two Phillips Harcourts have drafted in two players from the Trevs Sports premier two side, Lisa Goldsworthy and Lisa Hannam, both of whom have played at a higher level in the past.
