KEY POINTS:
The mothers of two boys who drowned during a school outing are suing the school's board of trustees over the deaths.
Carol Neal and Sharon Jopson are each claiming almost $200,000 over the deaths of Hamish Neal, 15, and Glenn Jopson, 13, from the board of Waimate High School, The Timaru Herald reports.
The pair drowned in the Waihao River in February, 2000.
Glenn got into difficulty while swimming across a hole in the Waihao River and pulled Hamish down with him.
The mothers' claim said the school did not take reasonable care to ensure the boys were safe.
The claim also states the board failed in another duty of care to advise the families of the deaths of their sons in a timely and sympathetic way.
The women are claiming general and special damages because of the severe psychological effect the incident has had on them.
The case was to have been heard in Timaru District Court this week but has been delayed.
