KEY POINTS:
An eight-month pregnant woman and her unborn baby were in a stable condition in hospital last night after their vehicle spun off the road and plunged 40m down a bank.
The woman was among eight passengers in the vehicle when the driver lost control on the Turoa Skifield Rd yesterday afternoon. It rolled twice before going over the bank, while on its way up the mountain.
Ambulance staff, the fire service and helicopter rescue teams cut passengers free before winching each one individually up the bank. The woman, from Lower Hutt, was flown to Wanganui Hospital. The other injured people, understood to be members of one family, were taken to hospital by ambulance.
