The mother of a newborn baby found buried in a makeshift grave in an South Auckland backyard has been charged with murder.
The baby's body was found on June 2 after someone with "first hand knowledge" tipped police off to where the boy was buried.
Assault charges were laid against his 22-year-old mother and a 29-year-old man was charged with disposing of the child's body to conceal his birth.
Both were granted interim name suppression.
Detective Inspector Dave Lynch this afternoon said further charges of murder and concealing the child's remains would be laid against the mother.
