A 25-year-old mother was killed in a two-car crash on State Highway 50 near Hastings this afternoon while her two toddlers sitting in the back seat suffered serious injuries.
Senior Sergeant Greg Brown said the woman died at the scene after the crash occurred about 1.50pm near Maraekakaho, following attempts by emergency services to revive her.
St John Hawke's Bay district operations manager Stephen Smith said the two children, both believed to be under five, were freed from the crash and taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital.
The other driver, a female in her 30s, was trapped in her car and received moderate injuries before she was also taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital. She was the only occupant of the car.
