Police have named a mother and child killed when their car and a stock truck collided on the outskirts of Hastings yesterday.
They were 26-year-old Bobbi-Jo Tua and her five-year-old son Elijah Meihana Tua-Hapuku-Tenahu, from Waipukurau in central Hawke's Bay, Senior Sergeant Stuart Fleming, of Hastings police, said.
Three others in the car, a 19-year-old man and two children all remained in a serious condition in Hawke's Bay Hospital.
All the car's occupants were from the same family, Mr Fleming said.
The crash happened on Longlands Road, about 12.30pm.
It appeared Ms Tua was the driver of the car, Mr Fleming said.
The truck driver was not injured, but was traumatised by the incident, he said.
The police serious crash unit was investigating the cause and asked any witnesses to the crash to contact them.
