A 27-year-old Lansdowne woman, who was given interim name suppression, was bailed on a charge of assaulting her mother and later the same day had again assaulted the woman, the court heard.
A woman who refused to leave her cell to face court had to be coaxed from the police station wearing a "suicide gown".
The 27-year-old Lansdowne woman who had been remanded from the court on a charge of assault immediately left court on Thursday and assaulted the same victim again.
She had appeared in court on crutches. It was after her second arrest she originally refused to leave her cell at the police station, the court heard.
Judge Barbara Morris adjourned court for a short time and the woman soon appeared in court, visibly distressed and crying periodically during the short appearance.
The judge granted her interim name suppression at the request of duty lawyer James Elliott.
She had appeared before the registrar in Masterton District Court on Thursday morning when she was remanded without plea on a charge of assaulting her mother on June 10.
Then in the afternoon, the court heard the woman was in police cells refusing to go to court following another assault on the same woman.
Mr Elliott said he had found it difficult to get any instructions from her.
"She's unwilling to be let out of the police station ... unwilling to instruct."
However, by the end of the day, the woman had "calmed down", making a short appearance before Judge Morris.
At times during the appearance, the woman rocked slightly and rubbed her head as she sat in the dock.
Judge Morris remanded her overnight in police custody.
The court held a special telephone court sitting on Friday morning with Judge Morris from Wellington where the woman pleaded guilty to two counts of assault.
A protection order was put in place by the judge to protect the victim.
Judge Morris remanded her on bail for a pre-sentence report and sentencing on July 31.
