KEY POINTS:
A Christchurch woman is outraged that "busy" police took more than an hour to respond to her 111 call reporting an intruder in her house at the weekend.
Sharleen Fenton of Papanui fled to a neighbour's house with her six-year-old daughter and family friends after a man in a black hoodie was seen in her daughter's bedroom at 9.30pm on Friday.
On calling police they were told no vehicles were available so "it could take a while", Ms Fenton said.
She said police may have been busy dealing with boyracers in the city for a weekend car convention, but the safety of she and her daughter was more important.
She said when police arrived the house was empty but they did not examine the scene, just checked that the man was gone.
Police confirmed they responded to the call but would not comment further.
An inspection by Housing New Zealand, which was protocol after an intrusion, found the back door lock had been broken.
