A jury has heard of how a Taranaki mother accused of manslaughter was extremely fatigued and sick the day her daughter died.
The 39-year-old woman, who has name suppression, is accused of falling asleep and smothering her baby while breastfeeding, under the influence of prescription medication and alcohol.
In a statement read to the court, the mother described how she was extremely exhausted and ill, but refused to ask for help in caring for her two daughters.
She said she knew she was struggling to stay awake, but didn't think she would fall asleep while breastfeeding.
The crown has now wrapped up its case.
