A Hamilton mother who allegedly abducted her baby daughter yesterday has been charged with breaching bail.
Hamilton City area commander, Inspector Rob Lindsay, said 18-month-old Chevelle Gage was with her father at the Hamilton Lake Domain on Tuesday when the girl's mother, 29-year-old Latisha Waa, took her.
The couple were estranged and the custody of the child had been awarded to the father.
Waa and Chevelle were found safe and well in the central city about 3.15pm.
Mr Lindsay said police held concerns for the safety of the baby with the mother, who was breaching bail conditions by having her.
"Fortunately, minutes after a release was put out that police were looking for the mother members of the public heard about it on the radio and contacted us with the pair's whereabouts."
The child was recovered without incident, he said.
"The little girl was placed into the care of Child Youth and Family a short time later."
Mr Lindsay said no charges for the alleged abductions have been laid so far and police were still investigating.
