Biosecurity New Zealand says eradication of the southern saltmarsh mosquito from the Whangaparaoa peninsula, north of Auckland, has been completed.
The mosquito - a known carrier of the invasive Ross River virus - was first found at the peninsula's Shakespear Regional Park in January 2004 during routine surveillance activity by Auckland Regional Public Health Service, Biosecurity New Zealand response manager David Yard said yesterday.
