The Great Kiwi Morning Tea is being served on Friday to raise funds for kiwi conservation projects, and yesterday Allyson Gofton gave baking and icing tips to pupils at Waikowhai Intermediate in Mt Roskill. Year 7 pupils Maggie Kuang and Layne Reid were taught how to decorate kiwi-shaped biscuits by the cooking personality turned ambassador for the inaugural event.
The morning tea will raise funds for Kiwis for kiwi, the national charity that works to protect the national bird and its habitat.
Every $100 raised is enough to protect a kiwi for a year. The money goes towards predator control, research and monitoring and Operation Nest Egg, which involves removing vulnerable eggs and young chicks from the wild until they can be returned.
People wanting to host a morning tea can register at kiwisforkiwi.org and receive recipes, invitations, kiwi facts and a poster.
