KEY POINTS:
Auckland rail commuters are to get more frequent services. The Auckland Regional Transport Authority and its train operator Veolia are today launching a new timetable for the Western Line.
Spokeswoman Sharon Hunter says it will mean the seating capacity of weekday services will increase by about 18 per cent.
She says there will now be 48 trains from Swanson to Britomart each week, compared with the old timetable which had just 28.
In 2005, the government gave the Auckland region $600 million to upgrade its rail network.
