Interesting how many people facing deportation or other "end of the line" punishments have, or someone close to them has, a life threatening illness. Is this a coincidence or part of the problem?
Damian Mitchell
Should definitely be deported. Immigration to any country is a privilege that should be reversed regardless of circumstances to any dangerous and violent offender.
Amazed
Any immigrant who offends this way should be given the boot, and never be allowed back in again. People like this don't offer anything positive to the country, and are a drain on resources. I can't see any reason why he should still be here.
Stan
Send him back where did he came from! Why should we taxpayers pay for his situation where he put himself in? What did he swear when he came in NZ? That he will be a good citizen? Yeah right he will be!
Julie
Deport the man and his family now. He has demonstrated that he is unable to abide by the laws of this country. New Zealand taxpayers should not be burdened with supplying healthcare for his family.
Lisa
What a joke! And what a terrible example to young people to behave like that because someone upsets you on the road. This man should go. It's a privilege to live in this country and if you break our laws and nearly kill someone whatever the reason you should be gone.
Ashley
I think people should learn how to forgive people this man made a mistake but I'm sure he learnt from it. He has been working in NZ so he has been paying tax to the country. Not only immigrants are killing and hurting people, even crimes. Most people that are on the benefit are not immigrants. These are the ones that were born and raised in NZ. This man deserves to stay in NZ and look after his family. People should learn how to forgive people. Everyone makes mistakes and they all deserves a second chance. We can't separate this man from his family, they need him as he is the main income earner in the family, and his son definitely needs to stay in the country. So we should just forgive and forget about this incident. It happened and there is nothing we can do about it. The only thing to do is pray for his son's life and forgive this man. Thank you.
Mike (Christchurch)
Welcome to New Zealand, The Nanny State.
Terry
Has this Samoan and his nephew been offered victim support and or counselling? Has he also been offered compensation for time spent in jail? After all, isn't this what our justice system offers criminals these days? If the boot was on the other foot and the victim had committed this crime in Samoa after a no doubt lengthy prison period he would have been deported immediately on release. The same should apply here. Get a life New Zealand!
SM (Whangamata)
Good grief, I see reading the article isn't high on many peoples' agenda. He wasn't the person who stabbed the victim, send his nephew home (presumably he is still in jail though).
Maneesh
It seems that New Zealand has become a dumping ground on humanitarian grounds. People commit serious crimes and when it comes to deportation, someone becomes so sick in the family that if deported, the sick person will die. Don't people think about their sick family members when they commit such a heinous crime?
Send him back and set an example.
C Y (Auckland)
He should be deported back to Samoa.
Marie
Send him home. Why should we either pay to keep him in jail or pay to have him live here! He needs to take responsibility for his actions, and by letting him stay he won't learn, and will probably re offend
MDC (Auckland)
He is a law breaker, send him home. We don't need that type of immigrant in NZ. If there is no extended family to support the son, there are the church services, who could step in and look after him until he can join his father. He should have put his family first before deciding to attack the other motorist. Unless he gets some serious help he is liable to do it again.

It seems to me that you are inviting comments to promote a racial agenda when road rage is common and worse in many incidents than this. I am angry at irresponsible drivers irrespective of their culture, and their lack of self-control from provocations and threatening behaviour of other drivers. But this racial agenda hangs over anyone in NZ, doctors included that your citizenship status is subjected to. It has that spooky feeling that you are been watched, especially if you are coloured. The media among politicians would go out big on a case that is not European. The Holmes daughter would draw more interest because of the status, but since he's a media magnate and European, nothing is said against it.
Carol from Waimauku
I just don't understand. We have our own criminals without allowing criminals from other countries to remain. What about the victim - once again their injuries and feelings are totally ignored, but let's feel sorry for the immigrant and his sick son! Did the immigrant think of his victim? We're sorry about the son's illness but we feel more sorry for people who have paid New Zealand taxes for many years, but can't have hips replaced, hearts repaired and many other illnesses fixed because the hospitals don't have enough money. Why is their money being spent on a criminal immigrant's son? Send him back immediately.
Paul Ahipara
Three strikes and you're out - or should be.
Fed Up
Did I read this correctly? This person with prior convictions was granted entry to NZ? He commits a serious violent offence and now gets to stay because one of his family members is receiving taxpayer funded treatment? What an abject disgrace - these are not the sort of people that NZ needs. - I say people because it was him and his nephew that did this crime. NZ should not be the welfare state of the Pacific Islands. This person and his family should be sent back to Samoa - whilst he's burying his son, perhaps he could ponder how his eviction from NZ and ultimately his son's demise rest squarely on his shoulders. He was given a chance, he blew it - instead of hoping he'll learn his lesson, why don't we learn our lesson and get rid of him and everyone associated with him.
Julie Foulkes
This man had previous convictions and his son can stay here with his wife or other children. How can we continue to allow bad people the privilege of staying here? It should be a gift, not a right! Send him home.
Maggie
What about the victim who was stabbed? Has anyone consulted him and asked him what he thinks should happen to this man?
Mathew
These types of people should not have been allowed to enter NZ in the first place. We are not a country where criminals from anywhere can come and stay. If someone does a crime then they have to pay for it and this is universal rule. Otherwise this country will become a haven for criminals (already it has become). Kick both of them out of NZ. Huge numbers of hard-working people are leaving NZ every week due to these type of things. As a NZ citizen I don't feel safe in this country anymore.
Jane (Dunedin)
This is ridiculous. He should have been sent home. There is of course no question of his young son being forced to leave, as he needs medical attention, but he and his father are not joined at the hip. One can stay, the other can go. It's a pity this thug didn't think about his son before he broke the laws of the country he wanted to join.
Logan Norcliffe
This is absolute rubbish! Deport him. He has a wife, presumably, the mother of the 14yr old needing care, let her stay behind with the boy. He doesn't need to be here and we don't want him here.
Rose
The Tribunal makes a curious comment that allowing Mr Anisesko to stay in NZ is not contrary to the public interest. But can anybody on that Tribunal articulate how allowing this violent criminal to stay is in our interest? We already have enough anti-social dangerous individuals we cannot extradite. Mr Anisesko is a time bomb waiting to explode. Why can't we keep mum and daughter and look after them but bid dad farewell? Who are the people making these decisions? Where is their loyalty to New Zealanders?
Robyn
It is a privilege to live in New Zealand and he has just lost that privilege. He should have thought about the consequences when the action happened. How long will it be before we see him up in court again?
Adrian
Send this violent mongrel back to where he came from! I'm sick of reading about immigrants who have no respect for their new country, he doesn't deserve to be in here!
Ray (Whangarei)
All immigrants in New Zealand should be deported immediately if found guilty of any crime, no matter how small the offence is. If they are arrested, tried and found guilty, their next stop after the court should be the airport. The NZ taxpayer should not be paying the cost of the imprisonment. Immigration should be imposing strict moral and legal obligations on all people entering the country. If a child is born in NZ the child is a NZ citizen and will get the same consideration as any other natural born NZ citizen. Get rid of the imported crims and cons we sure as hell don't need them.
Russ
Typical of this country. We spend too much time looking after deadbeat mongrels while victims get ignored. This immigrant came here to be part of a modern society, but sadly a caveman mentality drives these guys. He and his sick child will be costing NZ heaps while contributing nothing. Send him home.
Greg
Let the man be deported. We do not need such scum who choose to attempt to end life then cry like a spoilt baby when they want our country to heal their own children. The snivelling coward has a wife who can stay with the son who needs treatment. Get rid of the scum ASAP!
Margot
Typical of the nancies running immigration. If this guy had been white with skills to offer the country he would have been out on the next plane. Grow a back bone you PC lefties.
Robbo (Wellington)
Coming hard on the heels of the Romanians allowed to stay for a son's medical treatment after lying and cheating their way into NZ - what can we expect? What's wrong with the son staying here alone or with other family? He's 14 for goodness sake!
Sarah K
This violent and stupid man should be deported, or more to the point, should have never been allowed into NZ. He should have thought of his son before attacking someone. Why are we allowing these people into the country who do not bring anything except violence and dependence on our tax money?
Mercedes (Auckland)
Incredible. Why don't they think he'll reoffend? Because stabbing someone four times in retaliation for getting the finger is so reasonable? And he already had previous convictions before this stabbing? I thought we were supposed to be getting quality immigrants. Why was this guy let in here in the first place if he had a criminal record. He didn't think very "humanely" when he stabbed the poor guy. I think this man has worn out his welcome and it's time to give him the boot. Not only has he cost the taxpayer in terms of court and jail (let's bet he got a free lawyer) but his son is going to cost us too. Why couldn't the father have gone back and the son stayed? Is this the price of running a budget surplus? The Government just gives our tax money to everyone? Because I could really have used that money myself on basics like housing and my own healthcare.
Tony
Strike three and you are out. What's the saying 'the hand that's feeds got bitten.' Rights with Responsibilities = RR(Rolls Royce - the best). Compassion without wisdom spells disaster. What is it you do not understand?
JT
The person who was attacked could easily have died. This would affect this persons family, friends, work colleagues and wider community. This man should be deported, his son can still stay or go with him it is then his choice to make, he caused the situation and now must deal with the consequences.
Angus
What a joke! Others have been refused entry into New Zealand for far less than what this man has done in his past. Do we really need people like this in our country, it would be interesting to know just how much he has cost the tax payer in lawyers fees, medical costs for his victim and the list goes on. If you enter NZ and commit a violent crime you should expect to be deported. Does anybody remember what they did with that poor young girl from Sri Lanka when we threw her out? What was it that she did? And we let this guy stay? What a joke.
Fred
Violence is not acceptable. Bearing in mind there are a lot of disrespectful motorist. If you take the number and complain, nothing happen. The man who gave the fingers should be counselled too and fined for provocation. The offender was jailed and that's fair enough. Sending him back to Samoa is unfair. The good outcome from this is that both parties now learned of the consequences of their actions. I'm sure they will never do it again as long as they live.
Libby
So you can attack and injure a tax paying citizen of this country and not get kicked out for it? I wonder how much tax payer money is being used to help the sick son? If this guy is not being deported then his prison stay should be a lot longer. As is normal, it was reduced on the fact that part of the sentence was to leave our country. Do the crime, do the time.
Kaycee (Auckland)
I think this is a load of bull! This man is a criminal and was a criminal prior to this incident. I feel for his son, and do not feel that the son should have to leave the country for his treatment, or at least until his treatment is finished, but when good people like myself and my husband who work in this country (we have permits to work) and contribute generously towards society are denied residency, yet have no criminal record or tendencies, it proves that this system is only in favour for the islands.
Tina
Send him home. Doesn't matter whether it is now or when his son is better.
pCb (Auckland)
Hell - this is New Zealand. We accept anybody and the tax payer has no say in the matter.
