More than 1400 runners in this year's ASB Auckland Marathon raised at least $1.25 million for charities.
This year, 1426 runners signed up to raise money for a charity of their choice.
Sixty three charities were chosen to receive the money, which is still being counted.
The charity fundraising programme is a key initiative in the annual event and is coordinated between Ironman, the Realbuzz Group and online fundraising partner Everyday Hero.
Ironman Oceania managing director Dave Beeche said the organising team were extremely proud of the fundraising aspect to a hugely popular event.
"We believe in leaving an ongoing legacy in the communities in which we host our events," he said.
"The ASB Auckland Marathon has a proud tradition over many years of raising incredible amounts of money for worthy causes and charities in the local and wider New Zealand communities and has again done itself proud.
"It is with the support and involvement of our athletes that we could enable such large donations to a wide ranging group of charities. It adds tremendously to the overall event experience, particularly for the 1426 competitors who signed up and achieved their own personal goals, and at the same time had the satisfaction of helping others through their participation."
ASB executive general manager marketing and communications Roger Beaumont said the 2016 marathon was "a resounding success".
"ASB's official charity for this year's ASB Auckland Marathon was Starship Foundation and we were overwhelmed to see runners put in the hard yards, not only for marathon training but for fundraising too."
The donations to Starship will go towards the Clown Doctors.
"We are so grateful to all 101 of our passionate Team Starship runners," said Starship Foundation chief executive Brad Clark.
