Christchurch will receive further temporary accommodation facilities to help with the drastic shortage of short-term rental properties.
Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee announced plans for a temporary village at Rawhiti Domain today. The village will have 20 two bedroom units.
Brownlee said in a statement that "a further 43 units will be placed on the site over the following months, as the need arises." The minister added that the additional houses would increase the total number of temporary village properties, including houses at Kaiapoi and Linwood Park to 126.
This comes as the government add another 251 homes to the red zone.
