A man who suffered serious injuries while working at an Auckland base jumping operation yesterday is undergoing further surgery.
The SkyJump worker, aged in his 30s, was winding the cable back to the top of the Sky Tower when the accident happened.
He underwent surgery for his arm injuries last night and was receiving further surgery and medical treatment today, SkyJump director Steve Weidmann said.
The company runs the base jump operation from Sky Tower, where thrillseekers attached to cable freefall 192 metres before coming to a gentle stop in Sky City plaza below.
"The incident occurred during the 'rewind' process in a staff only area, no member of the public was involved and at no time would the incident have affected the public or customer safety," said Mr Weidmann in a statement.
