Snow is still expected on the South Island passes this morning but MetService has downgraded its warning for the Kaikoura Ranges.
Eastern areas of the South Island experienced heavy dumps of snow yesterday with up to 20cm forecast in the Canterbury foothills south of the Rakaia.
A warning was also issued for the Kaikoura Ranges but that has now been downgraded. However, MetService is forecasting snow to settle down to 300 to 400 metres above sea-level.
Meanwhile light flurries are also expected on the Lewis, Arthurs and Porters passes today.
