The worst of the stormy weather is over but scattered showers are expected to continue today.
Downpours over much of the upper North Island yesterday morning brought more than 100mm of rain to several Northland towns and MetService weather forecaster Chris Noble says showers today will become more frequent around lunchtime when a front from the South Island will move over Auckland.
Vector says 15,000 homes lost power because of the storm. Most had supplies restored quickly but about 500 Kawakawa Bay properties had to wait after a car hit a power pole in Clevedon.
The Auckland City Council says people should wait 48 hours before swimming at harbour beaches or near stormwater outlets.
