MetService has issued a fresh weather warning for the North Island with predictions of snow and wild weather to continue throughout the weekend.
As the low pressure system continues to move across the country the northern region has been told to braced for a chilly day as cold air sweeps up from the south.
A severe weather watch has been issued for the central regions of the North Island with rain forecast to fall overnight turning to snow on Sunday morning.
The government forecaster said all northern regions could expected to be buffetted by strong winds tomorrow as well as the northern tip of the South Island.
Heavy rain forecast for the eastern Bay of Plenty was expected to clear and heavy snowfall in north Canterbury and Marlborough was also expected to ease.
