Parts of the country are in for a further drenching as a moist northerly flow makes its way east over central and northern areas of the country.
Marlborough, the Bay of Plenty and northern Gisborne will get heavy falls, particularly in the ranges.
MetServive forecaster Mark Pascoe said thundery showers would arrive overnight and continue into tomorrow.
"In the ranges of northwest Nelson, 60-80mm could fall between about 3pm Monday and 3am Tuesday. About Mt Taranaki, up to 100mm is forecast between 9pm Monday and 6pm Tuesday, with heaviest falls in the early hours of Tuesday," Mr Pascoe said.
He said people should watch for rapidly rising rivers.
