New areas of the Christchurch CBD have been reopened with the cordon lifted on all of Manchester St for the first time in more than two years.
The cordon was last night lifted to open up the entire street as part of the east rebuild zone, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says.
Reconfiguring the cordon is "part of the continuing efforts to lift restrictions on the CBD as and when possible", the authority said.
"This relies on buildings that were in the cordon being made safe or fenced off and roads, street lights and footpaths being operational."
The cordon on the entire rebuild zone is expected to be lifted by the end of June.
