The Government is looking at additional ways to help owners of leaky homes, but says it is too early to say what form such assistance will take.
In 2002, the Government set up the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service to adjudicate disputes between homeowners, builders and developers in leaky home cases.
Building Issues Minister Chris Carter said yesterday that the Government had opened discussions with councils about possible improvements to the existing service.
"Those discussions are at an early stage and it is too early to say what they will yield," he said.
A spokesman for Mr Carter said the minister would also examine the problem of potentially liable companies being dissolved after a project or development was finished.
