Support for the drought-affected eastern South Island has been extended, and an extra $100,000 has been granted to help struggling farmers.
The Government has also extended the drought declaration until February next year.
Primary Industries Minister Nathan Guy said he met with local farmers in the Hurunui district today.
There had been little rainfall throughout the year, despite it being well into winter, he said.
"North Canterbury, Southern Marlborough and parts of South Canterbury and Otago continue to experience very dry conditions.
