KEY POINTS:
More fake banknotes have turned up - this time in Wanganui.
Yesterday, Manawatu shop owners were put on alert as several fake bank notes appeared in the region.
Today, a Wanganui police spokesman said one $50 note and a $100 note were found in two separate incidents in the city.
Both notes were picked up by banks, he said. One note had been banked with business takings and the other was picked up in the street.
Police were this week handed two dodgy $50 bills found in Palmerston North and Feilding, and one $100 bill which had been used in Bulls on Tuesday.
At first glance the notes looked close to the real thing, a police spokesman said.
Closer inspection revealed they were slightly darker, heavier and had no watermark.
The tape over the clear panel did not feature diagonal lines or a number as it would on a real note.
