Commuters face peak-hour chaos again tonight as the freight train derailment at Pukerua Bay continues to affect services.
Tranz Metro says rail commuters travelling north of Muri on the Paraparaumu line are advised to continue making alternative travel arrangements.
The derailment happened yesterday at 7pm. Tranz Metro provided some buses for commuters this morning.
Those who drove south faced heavy traffic into the capital.
Wagons were cleared this morning and track repairs are being made.
The Capital Connection service to Palmerston North will also be affected, says Tranz Metro spokesman Graeme Mowday.
Earlier today, Tranz Metro transported some commuters by bus to Wellington.
Toll spokeswoman Sue Foley said Tranz Metro had advised that commuters should find alternative transport today. "We are finding buses where we can," she said.
Buses were bringing Palmerston North customers, who would normally use the daily Capital Connection service, to Wellington.
A limited number of buses were available from other stations north of Muri.
Wellington passengers on the Auckland-bound Overlander will travel north by bus to join the train at Paekakariki today.
