Labour Weekend is finally here and temperatures take a bit of a dip to begin with on Saturday morning across the country but mild weather returns over Saturday afternoon or into Sunday.
High pressure looks set to cover the country with light winds and mainly dry skies - however early showers will be clearing the eastern North Island on Saturday (mainly around Gisborne) while rain clouds approach Fiordland or the West Coast later on Sunday or into Monday.
The sun's not giving a full show this Labour Day with a far bit of cloud lingering around most of the country.
But despite the grey cover - the wet weather is likely to be confined to the West Coast of the South Island today.
Most holidaymakers hoping to makethe most of their last day of freedom, should be in luck as MetService doesn't predict the wet weather will hit the rest of the country till tomorrow.
Meteorologist Stephen Glassey said the holidays wouldn't end early.
"The worst of the weather should hold off from most places until Tuesday, just in time for people to head back to work,"
Around the main centres; Auckland is expected to see clouds increasing in its skies, with a high of 19 degrees this afternoon. Rain is expected to make land in the city of sails on Tuesday, but should give way to some sun by Thursday.
It's much the same in the capital, where the high is expected to reach 18 degrees, with increasing clouds expected to bring in the rain by Tuesday, before the sun makes a showing again on Thursday.
Further south in Christchurch a wee bit of rain is expected later in the day, with some showers expected tomorrow - though it's not expected to get as much rain as its northern counterparts. The sun will come out to play in the garden city on Thursday.
MetService said the incoming wet weather is the result of a front approaching from the Tasman sea, which would bring rain or showers to most places by Tuesday.
