Additional funding of $2.3 million to increase the number of caregivers and help caregiver agencies is to be included in next week's budget.
Social Services Minister Steve Maharey said just under half of the money, which is to be spent over four years, would be used to recruit a further 250 to 500 caregivers a year.
The rest of the money will go to help:
* the Family and Foster Care Federation ($800,000);
* the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Charitable Trust ($45,000); and
* the Association of Child and Family Support and Community Services ($400,000).
