A home that went up in flames on the West Coast overnight is thought to be that of a Christchurch woman who fled to Inchbonnie to escape the earthquakes.
Katie Vink's story was highlighted in the media only last week when she shaved her hair in a public fundraiser, having lost her sister, mother and grandfather to cancer within the space of several years.
Ms Vink told the Greymouth Star last week that after almost a year on the West Coast she had finally found some peace: "Life couldn't be better."
Greymouth police CIB are treating the fire as suspicious and were this morning sifting through the ashes for clues.
Ms Vink was understood to have been in Christchurch when the fire broke out just after 10.30pm.
