Three more significant aftershocks have hit Canterbury this evening.
The latest, at 7.36pm, was 3.4 in magnitude and centred 10km south of Christchurch at a depth of 9km.
At 6.59pm, a 4.1 quake at a depth of 5km hit, centred 10km southwest of Christchurch.
This followed a 3.5 magnitude shock at 6.06pm, centred 10km southwest of Christchurch at a depth of 8km
The 6.59pm quake was felt widely in the region.
Twitter user TidgeH said "that one hit with a bang rather than a rumble", while Velolassie tweeted "thought the windows were going to blow out the house! Yikes!"
Hundreds of aftershocks have kept Cantabrians on edge since a 7.1 earthquake on September 4 caused widespread damage.
