Drivers had to keep their eyes peeled yesterday morning after a trailer lost its load of spuds on the Southern Motorway.
While no one was injured, a few potatoes were mashed before their time.
The spuds were spilled on the northbound onramp to the motorway at Papakura , causing some disruption for motorists. One of the two northbound lanes was closed for about 30 minutes and traffic had to be diverted to the Drury and Takanini interchanges.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said the truck's trailer left a deep gouge in the road which had to be repaired before the onramp could be opened again.
Police are investigating.
