Scam letters, postmarked from Malaysia, have been doing the rounds in Masterton.
The trend is an old-fashioned deviation from the typical email get-rich-quick correspondence.
These letters are affixed with an attractive Malaysian stamp and genuinely postmarked.
The writer, Mrs Wang Lili Zaizi, suggests an abandoned sum of $45 million is available to be shared to a New Zealander who can join forces with her and pretend to be a benefactor, before the Malaysian government confiscates it.
"Yeah, right", is how Masterton's Les Wright sums it up, after receiving one of these letters and showing it to the Times-Age.
