Hmmm, well I've been doing these special holiday forecasts each day since Boxing Day but today's blog is the hardest to write about. Why? Well, simply there isn't a great deal happening out there! A big high has moved in for much of the week - certainly for the North Island - now this is great news for campers and holidaymakers...mostly sunny skies and sea breezes (or lake breezes) ... hot days for relaxing and doing nothing and slightly cooler evenings for sleeping...and doing...anything else. If you're a farmer this could also be good news for getting hay cut. If you're going back to work...then it's simply bad luck. I suggest finding a room with no windows so you can't see what you're missing out on!
Showers?
I don't think we'll see much in the way of showers anywhere in New Zealand today. The only risk areas could be Central Plateau (around the ranges in the afternoon) and possibly Southland/Coastal Otago.
Cloud?
Just some of that harmless afternoon stuff for most western areas, including Auckland, and Central Plateau and also across Southland.
Sun?
Plenty of it...and burn times are really at their most extreme now...so cover up or stay outta the sun during the hottest times of the day...granted that's pretty much from sunrise to sunset at the moment!
Wind?
Sea and lake breezes for most regions, or no wind at all...but winds in the lower South Island and perhaps around Wellington (really?!). Nothing extreme for anyone...yet.
Severe Weather?
Looking ahead to mid/late week. Scorching highs are expected to return to eastern areas of the South Island either tomorrow or Wednesday...and maybe eastern areas of the NI later in the week. Plenty of 30s again as that nor'wester kicks into gear. Heavy rain across the West Coast is also likely - watch for weather warnings.
Next Update: Tuesday morning.
