A police station was attacked with molotov cocktails last night.
Two constables in Te Puke were dealing with an alleged drunk driver around 10.20pm when they heard two loud bangs.
The pair ran outside to discover molotov cocktails had been thrown at the station and a parked police car.
One of the home-made bombs landed near the back door of the station, but failed to ignite, while the other was thrown at the window of the car, Senior Sergeant Wayne Mills said.
It smashed the window, but had landed outside the vehicle and had started a small fire on the ground, which was quickly extinguished.
Detectives based in Te Puke and Tauranga were carrying out a thorough investigation of the scene this morning.
They said there were no leads and no suspects.
Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about people with grudges against the police to contact them.
